This is where we're trying to share some of what we've learned with the rest of the world. We've learned a lot from the Internet at large, and really appreciate the wealth of information out there. Many times it has saved us frustration and anguish, and we'd just like to try to contribute some information as well.

Information and Troubleshooting

wu-ftpd. A pretty-well commented ftpaccess file for use with wu-ftpd. Also a standard ftpconversions file so you can do tar and gzip on-the-fly. Other tips.
DNS
- All-too-common DNS problems: IP-to-Domain Mapping.
- DNS and bind maintenance interval. Follow this link if you're getting errors like
  WARNING SOA retry value is less then maintainance interval (300 < 900)
  from BIND (note the misspelling of "maintainance").
popd. A popd problem we had: users not able to retrieve mail for 15 minute periods.
procmail. Procmail problems: mailer prog died with error 213 and mailer prog died with error 13.

Linux-Related
This information is relatively old, but probably still valid. We're now exclusively FreeBSD.
- Installing RAID-1 on a Linux system: making a striped 8G disk from two 4G drives for news.
- Problem with Slackware 3.0 install: swap partition not enabled. It came to our attention when we started getting can't map libc errors...
- Getting NFS to work: Getting errors like RPC: program not registered? Check here. Also included is a dependency on /etc/hosts.allow you wouldn't expect (if you know why, please email us and let us know).
- Connecting to your ISP via PPP: Here's a chat script and something I had to do to get PAP to kick in.
- Parameters to tweak if you're optimizing the linux kernel for heavy usage: Man, this information is hard to come by. This is what I've found so far. If you've got some advice, please send it!

Scripts

htpasswd. Our very popular, simple perl script for use with a web form that creates a username:password pair for use in .htpasswd files.
A shell script for cleaning out sendmail's mailqueue.
Clear out lingering ftp processes - useful on a multi-user or anon-ftp machine.
Automate the set up of data files when adding a network to an rwhoisd server. The script uses these templates.
